Gear Reduction Starter

Subject may have discused before, but, I decided to try one of these on my BJ8 after my two local 1oo and 100M urged me on. On Wed. night we started to install mine and after removing the old one, it occurred to me the instructions did not cover neg or pos grnd. I called the after hours number for Britishstarters.com and left a message. Within 15 minutes, Dr. Marty called back! His instruction, does not matter, the starter only turns one way. Within an hour it was installed and spinning the BJ8 engine like a top. I think I like it. and I was impressed with Dr Marty's quick response.

I was told by a guy that races Healeys that the gear reduction starter is 8 to 9 pounds lighter than the stock one and uses less power so you can put in a smaller battery. He uses a 20 pound battery. He also put in an alternator for a total of 50 pounds of weight savings.

I've installed them on both my 100 and my wife's 3000--I got mine from Gustafson and hers from British Starters. I just managed to squeeze mine in and had to do a little sculpting to the sheet metal in the toe box on her car, but in both cases the engines spin much faster and start more easily.
