Gear lever thread size

Folks,

I'm looking to get a new gear knob for the BJ8, in stainless steel - a plain sphere. I suspect that if I get a modern-made one I'll neeed it to be tapped to fit the thread on the lever.

Anybody know what size the thread is?

Bob

I put my own knob on using a modern threaded sleeve insert. I think it was 3/8" coarse thread?

measure the outside diameter of the male thread then lay a ruler along the theaded portion count the number of Threads Per. Inch resulting in for example: 3/8 ins. O.D. 12 TPI this thread size will be recognised as a standard by any machine shop. Job Dun.
