As posted in other places, we visited The Heritage Motor Museum on the way from Harrogate to Goodwood. It's an interesting museum I'd not heard of. It's basically a Leyland products place, but is pretty good-sized (with a few hundred cars in a large circular building). Here are 3 shots (of an excessive number I took :wink-new: ).

I've visited Gaydon a few times (I only live 30 minutes away). They regularly have classic car meets with reduced entry to the museum if you turn up in a classic. Its definitely well worth a visit. It also contains the archives from most of Austin, Morris, Rover etc group of companies (with the exception of the Jag who have their own museum) and is the source of the Heritage certificates. Most of the records, drawings, photos etc can be reviewed (by appointment usually) in the reading room there.

The Land Rover experience is also great fun (but try and get a front seat)!
 
You're lucky to have it so close. It's a gem.
I can tell that they host a lot of different functions outside too. When we were there it was all about trucks (lorrys)... Peterbilt, Mack, etc. were everywhere, and the upstairs banquet rooms where filled with truck collectors selling memorabilia.
 
It sounds like you're having a great trip! It seems to me that the museum in Amberley is near the Heritage Museum & well worth a visit. And if you can get to Coventry their transportation museum is (IMHO) the best in England. Or if you're still near Goodwood head for Chichester & go out to Tangmere.

Thanks John. We're home now. I've heard great things about the museum in Coventry, and perhaps we can get there on the next trip.
