Yes, it's active.

I installed an HIF6, which has the fuel bowl at the bottom. This makes them somewhat sensitive to heat. Also, I chose to use a manifold intended for a Mini, rather than the Spridget version which angles downward. (There's a <span style="font-style: italic">slight</span> performance advantage using the Mini version) That creates a clearance issue.

So, the scoop allows for clearance, and is centered so that air is directed downwards to cool the HIF and provide a bit to the air filter as well.

Yes, I just centered them on the holes until I could think up something better.

Now I have two sets of spare fenders from early cars, with a nice set of early signals - so that's the 'something better' I'm going to do.
