This is just kind of a general question but where would I send off a 73 TR6 temp gauge to get it fixed/reconditioned? I have one and its not working. My dad and I have tested it and it is showing hot around 190 degrees. thanks for the help.

Are you sure the discrepancy isn't in the sending unit? These are prone to inaccuracy too and are a lot cheaper than gauge repair.

Vety good point, George. Now that I think of it, I had a grounding issue with my sending unit that, once cleaned, corrected a lot of inaccurate readings.

Out of curiousity where would you expect the gauge to be at when the water temp is at 190? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

That's the great thing about TR3 & 4 temp gauges... they had numbers on them.

They were often fairly inaccurate, but at least you knew where you stood once you figured that out.

I would expect 190 to be about an eighth inch right of center (more or less).

The gauge should be about in the middle at 190 and not on the red of the hot. I have tried about a half a dozen sending units in the car but haven't water tested them all in a pan of water on a turkey cooker. My dad and I have done all kinds of stuff to try and make the heating gauge read accurate. We have ran a seperate wire, we have made sure everything is grounded, we have put a new voltage stabilizer on the car. I know that the gas and temp gauge run off of the stabilizer and the gas gauge is pretty accurate. I think the gauge is just running hot even though the car is not. Any other suggestions that anyone can think of?

You say you have a 73 TR6? I also have a 76 and there's no red on my gauge. Just cold and at the other end hot nad then theres 3 hash marks in between. When my water temp was at about 195 the gauge was at 3/4 mark. Where did you get the info that the gauge should be at the halfway mark when the water temp is 190? How did you determine your water temp was 190? You may not have a gauge or sending unit problem at all. Then again I could be wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

well my 73 gauge went all the way to hot when I had it in the car but now I have an earlier temp gauge and it has red for hot. The way we determined it was showing hot was take the sending unit out of the car and put it in a warming pot of water with a thermometer in the pot. also my radiator has been recoiled.

Color on the gauge makes a more interesting dash. Hope you can get it repaired for $25. It makes sense to use the sending unit in the calibration process if you really want it accurate.
