TMI?

Come to Cass,WV and drive the cool roads here! Ride the steam train.

Lodging available to Forum members (as long as you drive your LBC here...).

That's a beautiful setup. Any chance to find something similar to my Spit?

I want to know about the ramps (wild leeks.) I grow 9 varieties of garlic and just started a ramp patch in my woods. Are yours local wild ramps?

Oh yeah, 270deg gauges look great!

Shays, a Climax, and a Heisler!! I supose there are switchbacks too? Usually steep and twisty track if there are geared locomotives.

How far are you from the Blue Ridge Pkw? A trip up the Blue Ridge could include a visit to the Tweetsie and the Cass Railroads.

PeterK - Our ramps are wild here. I usually can 20-30 quarts per season from 4 different patches, rotating.

For the benefit of the un-initiated: A ramp, or rampion, is a relative of the leek that is best described as tasting like a green onion crossed with an angry clove of garlic. Usually dug up in early spring only (they get bitter soon!)

Tom - I'm a fireman here at Cass, and so is Honey Snookums. (Not a bad retirement gig!)

Our average grade is 6% with a maximum of 11.97% (thats just shy of a 12 foot rise in a 100 foot run. hard to walk up, much less push a locomotive up).

2 switchbacks. Two better than 30deg. turns. (nearly impossibly sharp for a railroad).

We are a couple of hours from the BRP. The roads between are VERY good... i.e. twisty, hilly, blind, on and off-camber goodness.

Come visit, find me, and we'll get you in the cab. (assuming space is available, and you don't mind the heat...).
