I am looking to replace the six black & dusty incandescent gauges of my 1960 Triumph TR3A with new white background, LED lit gauges. Does anyone know a source for these? And, the best way to go about doing this? I wonder if the dash is removed to get to the gauges.

Doc. I am not sure... but memory says I have seen what you are looking for
at some of the vendors in England.

There are these available from the UK. You might find them here in the US. I’ve never seen them first hand but they’ve been discussed before and IIRC owners have been happy with them…

I found the Smiths Replica Kits on Ebay and Amazon. I am concerned what the quality will be like in a 6 gauge set that costs less than $45. The one reviewer I found said, they are out of calibration and the speedo makes too much noise. By stark contrast, Mo-Ma quoted me 62 times more money ($2,800) to restore mine in either black or white. Both are outliers of what I want to pay for a set of gauges. So, I am still shopping for a solution. I might try to open and clean my existing gauges. Still shopping before deciding.

This is another option, and one i will be considering using on my panther when the time comes.

All electronic, speedo is GPS rev counter runs off the alternator, seven colour led, so you can set the colour to match your mood, Some sets are offered with the senders also included.

If non-factory is OK, then I would recommend looking at the Prestige Series from Auto Meter (a competition-proven American brand), either in Black Diamond or Prestige Pearl. A 5-gauge set in Black Diamond (GPS speedo, WT, OT, fuel, and voltmeter, including all sending units) is $791.99, add the 8000 RPM tach for $266.85, a grand total of $1058.84.

Auto Meter Prestige Black Diamond Gauges

They have a nice period look which doesn't scream "T-Bucket wannabe" the way their original Antique series does.

Auto Meter also offers a Cobra series (downside: reverse-dial tach & speedo) or Old Tyme (just a little too far into Old Tymes for a TR, IMO).

You can order direct from the Auto Meter site, or I happen to work for an Auto Meter dealer -- we'd just have to order them, which would take a little longer than going direct.

You got me thinking, Mezy. I don't know if my TR3A has an alternator or a starter/generator. I will check when I get back home next week. (my work schedule is one week on and one week off). The set shown here has a voltmeter, which would be better suited to an alternator than my existing ammeter.

Does the Tach work off the Alternator or the distributer?
The MG Midget I am working on has its Tach driven from the points side of the coil. It has power to one terminal of the Tach and the other terminal goes to the points side of the coil. It says 4 cylinder on the face.

I think the tach getys its pick up from the alternator, not the points, I think they are made that wat as few cars these days have points

I used Autometer Gauges Sport Comp I & II gauges in my TR4. I pried off the plastic bezels and installed Smiths/Jaeger Bezels to make them look period correct. The Tach and the Speedo need a signal from somewhere, I used a GPS module for the speedo and pulled a signal from the coil(s) for the tach.

Thank you, I am leaning toward autometer.

...been a while since I checked this post. Autometer has a few different ways of picking up the signal. I'm using a Autometer Tachometer Module, I've got a wasted spark ignition and a Emerald K3 ECU.

Yes, I will most likely go with the antique white autometer. I have been sidetracked with construction projects here at home. I will post later when the full gauge replacement project is complete. Deviating from the original may not go over well with some forum members whereas others won't mind. Just as when I went from the point ignition system to the electronic ignition. My car runs beautifully and reliably now. While I understand the purists point of view. I just want to create a red & white valentine appearance on my Triumph TR3A too much to stay original black with helvetica numbers and letters.
