TR2/3/3A gauge sending unit

On the gas gauge sending unit there are 2 studs, one larger than the other. Is the larger one the case ground? It is the most inside one.
 
That's the way I remember it. Look at the studs; the one for the gauge should have a fiber washer under it. The other will have what appears to be a steel washer.

Or check with an ohmmeter.
