I have no lights on my gas gauge and my oil pressure/temp gauge (BN7). There is an empty light socket hanging down from the dash with a red w/white wire coming from the tach light. It would work with a light bulb and the metal ground strap attached to something. I do not see where the socket is to be connected to anything. I assume it is intended to provide lighting to the gas gauge remotely (not connected inside the gauge like the tach and speedo lights.) But how is it attached to anything?

There should be a loop which is a portion of the retainer bracket that holds the meter in and allows the socket to also be pluged in to-TMK
 
I had the gas gauge out in my hand and it has no light socket. There is a metal ground tab attached to the socket that may attach to something else. The gauge has transparent slots around the rim with blue plastic in the windows. I need to hear from a 100-6/3000 Mk I expert.

Yep I forgot you have one of those antique cars. There is a picture of one of those gauges on this forum probably in the archives now., it may help you a bit.

OH! I remember now! The bracket that holds the gauge in includes a funny little loop like portion that holds the lamp socket remotely from the gauge.---Keoke
 
That's it, Keoke's got it. The light shines in through the slots that you saw. :iagree:

Yes, I went out and crawled upside down under the dash and discovered the round metal bracket on the oil/temp gauge. It had a burned out bulb which I replaced and that side now works. The round metal bracket is missing on the fuel gauge side and that is why the light socket was hanging down. I will have to fabricate some alternative some day. I tried drilling a hole in the brass tab on the socket and proceeded to rip my finger open with the drill. At least I now have three gauges lit where I only had one before. I never drive the car at night, so it never mattered before, but now I'm trying to fix as many old problems as I can since I'm retired and have the time. I just finished putting in new Heritage Karvel carpet and replaced the headlamp dimmer switch that had never worked for 28 years. The next project is reinstalling my wiper system that I removed after it failed and blew the main fuse. I got a rebuilt motor from England -- the shipping was twice the cost of the motor.

I did fabricate a socket holder based on a photo I happened to find in John Loftus's comprehensive restoration photos. I now have all the lights working.
