About 20 years ago, my then-future-ex-brother-in-law had a 1952 (or so) Ford Prefect. I remember it being almost as much fun to drive as my '52 Triumph Mayflower, also a flathead w/three-speed gearbox. Certainly by today's standards, specifications for both cars were very antiquated, but at least the Mayflower had a water pump, hydraulic brakes and electric wipers!

The other unusual and terrible feature was vacuum driven wipers which went fast on the over-run but almost stopped when you accelerated.
[/ QUOTE ]Again, regarding that '51 Prefect, I remember that that particular car had a vacuum reserve tank, which helped out a bit in keeping wipers going. I've no idea if that was an original feature or not, but I remember being intrigued by the fact that the tank was the very same tank found in the vacuum-operated headlamp door system on the old family '68 Ford LTD Country Squire!
