I'm ready to put the windshield frame of our GT6+ back onto the car. I've read a few places that a gasket sealer should be used between the gaskets and metal, both at the cowl and at the roof. I'm seeing things that are mostly - I believe - for glue-in windshields. I re-gasketed an octagon badged car about 20 years ago and didn't use any sealer to the best of my memory so this is new territory for me. I'd certainly appreciate some suggestions or recommendations for the 'sealer of choice' to get me going in the right direction.
 
I wasn't sure what to do either Dave. So...I used a very, very thin strip of the black weatherstrip adhesive on the frame-to-roof gasket (more to hold it in place) and the clear windshield sealer (again very thin) on the cowl-to-frame gasket. Appears that I have not caused any problems - but I do make it a point to not directly train the water hose on either area.

That sounds like a sensible way to go. Not to worry... I learned early-on to go real easy with the hose at bath time.

When I pulled the windshield from the 4A, I found about a baseball's worth of dum-dum between the frame and the cowl. I haven't found dum-dum to use when I put the windshield back on, but haven't looked too hard. People have told me strip caulk would work. However, the 3M strip caulk is stickier than the old dum-dum and if I used strip caulk, I may have to use an entire box. So I'm still looking. My spidey sense keeps telling me that there must be a plumbing product that would work.
 
When re-doing the seal for the windshield on my Lotus 7, I went to the "custom" glass place (not just any glass place) and he, having done lots of hot rod windshields, knew exactly what I needed. It's a tape made of paper and tar and once installed the sun "melts" and bonds the windshield and frame for a good seal (without running). The tape comes in varrious ticknesses, paper thin to 1/8". I'm even using it for body seams.
Don't know if this will work in your case, but our brothers who have hot rods have a lot of problems the same as ours.

Maybe we're talking about different places around the windshield. For fitting the glass into the frame, I have windshield adhesive. The dum-dum was between the windshield frame and the cowling. I have a box of the 3M strip caulk and after using it in various crevices I don't think I want to shape wads of it to fill the space under the windshield frame. Its too sticky.
 
Yes, Jim, I think that 3M glazing compound is what I want. Specifically designed for gaps between rubber and metal.
