Gasket sealer

I am busy putting a "new" oil filter housing on my Mini. This is a quick and hopefully easy question. Should I put gasket sealer on the gasket, or is it better left without? Or does it not really matter either way.

Thanks

Are you talking about the gasket between the block and the filter head? If so, I would consider using Aviation-Form-A-Gasket on the gasket/joint. The oil filter itself (be it cartridge or spin-on) should not need any sealer as they use rubber seals.

Thanks Doug. Yes, that is the one I meant - between the block and the filter head. The spin-on has its own rubber seal.
