Gasket Sealer on Intake/Exhaust Manifold Gasket.

Doing some winter project work. Pulled the intake and exhaust manifolds off and found that when a previous repair was made, the mechanic used gasket sealer on both sides of the intake/exhaust manifold gasket. Not under my ownership.

I was planning on reassembling with a new gasket, but have never used gasket sealer on my TR6 i/e manifold gaskets.

Doesn't seem to be a reason for it, any suggestions or opinions appreciated.

It may not be necessary but it can't hurt. I use Ultra-copper for high-heat applications such as this.
 
Strictly speaking... I believe use of sealant on the manifold gasket is discouraged. However, on my Triumph engines I have used sealant on the manifold gaskets. That is because my Spitfire and GT6 have/had aftermarket headers that I could never dress flat.

I use Locktite Copper Hi-Temp gasket spray https://www.amazon.com/Loctite-37583-Temperature-Adhesive-Sealant/dp/B003XZARRK on both the exhaust and intake manifold on my race motors. It makes a solid seal and allows for easy removal.

In the late '60s when I was taking a vo-tech auto mechanic class I remember specifically being told not to use gasket sealers on these type gaskets - the asbestos-type side bonds to the head and waffled metal side is supposed to allow a small amount of movement/slippage due to the differing expansion rates of the head and manifold. So, I have always installed them dry.
Doing a little quick research I found the Moss has developed their own gaskets for their supercharger kits and specifically say leave them dry.
Fel-Pro site also specifically says to install dry.
Not too sure it makes a huge difference but thought I'd throw it out there. I think you have been doing it right all along.
