gasket question

Share this page

Order a few other bits that you surely need to soften that $10 hit on the $5 item and get the gasket. The oil pan is just not going to be a good enough natural fit.

on the engine pan, i would install the proper gasket kit.

based on this discussion, i will stay with the designed gaskets along with a small amount of sealant. i want to take advantage of the improved materials and methods we have now to reduce the leaks as much as possible.

i am spending a lot of time cleaning and examining every piece of this car. it would be disappointing if i just put it back together and wasn't able to reduce the number of leaks.

An alternative to spending more money, is spending more time (there is never a "Cheap way") and buying the cork gasket material in sheet form and cutting your own!
 
I will definitely make my own gasket before buying another. As many times as I pull my pan, maybe I can make a pattern or jig so I can just bang out a new gasket whenever I need one. I do have an extra oil pan.
