took the first run in my 75 midget all went well until a filled up with gas the fuel leaked out of tank until it was down about 3/4. before a drop the tank what are the ways to
fix tank if any.do not not know how bad hole is i presume it is on the upper side.

One thing you could check first is to look at the vent lines in the trunk. One of them goes from the tank to the vapor separator in the right rear fender, and if the hose breaks, it can siphon the gas out when you fill the tank. That happened to me once.

My guess is if you've got those kind of holes in it you're probably looking at getting another tank. Mine had holes on the top and was deemed worthless. You can't weld on it to fix the holes unless you like the Don King and shrapnel look. Might be able to fiberglass it, but in my opinion a new tank is in order. If the outside has holes then the inside is going to have a lot of rust and scale that'll clog your fuel supply lines, filters, and carbs.

My 75 midge was leaking slowly out of the fitting in the forward tank. (Feed Line) I have a quick fix that I just performed Friday. Worked Great. No Matter how tigh it would not stop, I now have a small rubber oring inside the fitting and a small round paper oring between the threaded fitting and the line. (Actually robbed it from a weber rebuild kit) Tightened just snug and no more leaks!

I have successfully fiberglassed the top of 2 leaky gas tanks.
And I did watch one blow sky high when my buddy tried to weld an old VW tank when we were young and stupid /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
But I did fiberglass an old Ford tank and a Healey 3000 tank.
They held up fine for over a year that I know of.

Is there fuel insided the trunk (boot)? Just like sparkydave said, check the lines to the vapor separator. There should be a metal braided line with a rubber line inside. The rubber will rot out and then the fuel can leak/siphon out. Replace them by cutting (away from the car) the line away from the fittings with a dremel tool, and then reuse the fittings with new rubber lines.
