Gas tank return line

I'm very slowly putting together the parts for an MG Metro Turbo conversion for my Midget and one of the things I need to have is a return line to the tank. My 1973 Midget originally had emissions equipment which included a "Vapor" return line to the tank. It enters the tank just fore of the fuel filler pipe and appears to be a 1/2" fitting. My question is: Can I use the "vapor" inlet on the gas tank to return the liquid gas that gets diverted by the OEM MG Metro Turbo fuel pressure regulator? My gut feeling is that it is just a plain straight fitting emptying into the gas tank with no baffles or restrictions but I'ld like to get some confirmation before I get gasoline pumping into my boot!
Thanks

I piped my return line by drilling a hole in my filler pipe, running a piece of hard line through the hole and to the bottom of the tank, and gluing it tight with some gas resistant clear glue.

The biggest problem I can see with going with the vent line fitting as a return is that you will end up pouring hot gas from the top of the tank. This is going to generate a lot of vapor. With your vapor recovery system effectively disabled, you will have to vent that vapor to the atmosphere... why would you want to do that when you can do it the non-polluting way just as easily?

Awww, very good insight. Just the sort of answer I was looking for. Thank you!
