Will gas tank linings stand up to today's fuels? If so any recommendations who does this?

I do it to tanks all the time...I take them to my local radiator shop where they are boiled, pressurized, repaired if needed, & chemically lined...was there y'day with the new tank for my TD - getting it lined.
 
Thanks for your help. The tank is in excellent shape. No leaks. A coating was put in 10 years ago and it is "flaking" causing the filter to get clogged with junk. All I need is a cleaning and lining of some sort - no holes to fix.

Bruce - my TD tank is brand new...& I had it lined...get the guys at your local rad shop to boil it to see if they can get all the old lining out...we had to open the tank of the Daimler to sand blast all the old lining out.
 
Thanks. Not sure I want go that far with opening the tank. May get a new one and have it lined. Not sure yet.

Had to open the Daimler tank - you can't get them anymore!
 
We had the nasty tank on Binabox boiled and pressurized and lined at the radiator shop up town. Cleaned out and re-lined, although I'm not certain (yet) if some of that stuff isn't flaking off and bits getting sucked onto the fuel intake and causing her to 'die' on occasion.
 
I used POR's tank cleaning/lining products and am happy with it so far - NFI and YMMV
 
Janel - if its done properly & then allowed to dry completely before gas is put in the tank, it shouldn't do that....I'd take it back were it mine.
 
I'm thinking the same thing Tony. I'm not keen on pulling the gas tank, but after we eliminate all other possibilities, the gas tank comes off this winter and I will be the one to take it back to Dale's Radiator Shop.
 
My radiator guy won't even release a tank until he's sure the lining is set & its ready for gas.
 
Yea well, that's what this guy said too. We'll see what happens. Engine comes out next week, may just yank the tank at the same time.
 
Even if I bought a new tank, I'd have it lined. Tony, did they have to cut open the TD tank? I have two one not original to the car that is really clean inside but a little banged up on the outside. The orginal came with the car and is firly rusty inside but not perforated. I'd like to have it re-done. I was a little iffy about having them cut it open. Do you think the paint will come off of it, if it is worked on? It still has the original paint on it and I was hoping to keep it that way.
 
No, the TD tank was new so all we did was line it...my old TD tank is cut open to inspect...I'll close it & line it & put it up for sale

The reason we opened the Daimler tank was because the old liner wouldn' come off because there was so much 'molasses' in it.

I'm with Doc - why the engine removal? Its on the opposite end of the car from the gas tank....hehehehe
 
Because she's still consuming too much oil and there's some awful valve clatter. Consensus is possibly a head gasket and possible bad rings.
 
I'm not even gonna attempt to diagnose...whatever they say up there....have fun!
 
Bill Hirsch sells the best products. FYI, the Moss fuel tank cleaner, etch and liner are all re-badged Hirsch products.
