TR6 gas smell

When I fill the tank to FULL...the car smells up the garage.....if I run it down a quater....smells fine...any ideas? Thanks in advance...Ed
 
Is there a gasket on the gas filler, under the cap?
 
Im not certain...checking now! There is a black rubber (in good shape) derby shaped piece which appears to be spring load, which should provide a decent seal when closed. But no gasket.

What Year Is your 6. There differences between early and later.. There are rubber connections for the emission control system attached to the filler neck, under the rear deck panel, that maybe deteriorated and need replaced or you may have a leak around the sending unit gasket.
And never over fill the tank. When the pump shuts off it's full.
Pull the panel in the boot. My guest is the sending unit gasket.

As Rider says, fittings are year/build/model specific.

and THE ANSWER IS: split fuel line in the frame behind front wheel…..dang! The fun never stops! Thanks all for giving me suggestions. Don’t know why I thought is was coming from trunk 🙂
