Gas filler pipe question

was cleaning and painting today and there is a little surface rust on the inside of the gas filler pipe. (The piece from the gas cap to the rubber hose.)

It is mostly from non use for 15 years and is surface rust at the most. Is there any reason I shouldn't paint it? or will the gas dissolve the paint?

thanks all

No Paint. Fuel tank sealer only, Must be fuel proof.
