Does anyone have intructions on how to install gas charged hood props on a 77 MGB? I have a set with the #P1138 0944 MG Super Lift. Are these for the hood or GT tail gate? Need to know where to drill, did a template come with the set? Any help will be appreciated. Also, I have a distributor D 204, made in England by AC delco...anyone know what it fits? It's a 4 cylinder, points type with manual vacumn and a speedo drive.

Do you know where the struts came from? If not then perhaps Rick Ingram at Pieces of Eight mowog1@aol.com can help you with the mountings and location. As far as the distributor, I'm sure that Jeff up at Advanced Distributors can ID that one. https://www.advanceddistributors.com/
By the way, that's not a speedo drive it's for a cable drive tach. If it will fit a MGB there are some guys that have installed B enignes in their MGAs that could definitely use it. My guess it's for a Triumph.

I just installed some on SSsnake....got them from McMaster-Carr...on their web site, they have instructions for fitting, measuring, etc. that might be of help.

Sorry that I can't give you any specifics about installing gas struts on an MG, but I installed them on my V8 Healey.

I bought a pair at my local auto parts store. I mounted the top ends to the hood hinges and SWAGed where to drill the holes for the bottoms.

It is not rocket science, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

1) Keep the distance between the upper end and the hood pivot point fairly short and
2) Do not let the upper end go inside of the upper mounting point (over center) when the hood is closed.

Guys, for those of you that are contemplating buying struts and figure that you can get something that works at the local auto parts store be careful. I've had to source gas struts as replacements for some equipment I work on and I've found that there are literally hundreds of combinations of length, diameter, and pressure to choose from. Get it wrong and you can easily over flex your hood or deck lid trying to close it or the struts won't keep it raised well. The vendors such as Moss and Rick Ingram have taken the time to do the research and found struts, mounting brackets, and locations that work.

Thank you, Bill.

I'm a very small vendor...but I have a tremendous product in the bonnet, bootlid, and GT struts. My kit was most likely the first kit on the marketplace...before Moss, Vicky Brit, and others came onto the scene. I use a different strut than they do...and I feel it is the better of those currently being sold.

And before it gets asked, I am more than willing to assist those enthusiasts who have purchased my struts and need help with the install...but because of liability due to the varying differences of force found between struts in the marketplace, I cannot give an opinion on other manufacturer/suppliers' products.

nice Healey.

Thanks. Mine is a real Healey. The engine is a 300 HP Ford 302 with a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

I am in the process of changing to R&P steering, adding a 24" radiator and fender vents, adding A/C, and a Healey hardtop. Also installing a distributorless ignition system and probably 4 - 2" SU carbs. Then a fresh paint job. Once you start... It's never done.

I first did the V8 swap in 1975 when Healeys were plentiful. The car is the MOST fun you can have with your cloths on, but I would not do it today. Engine swapping a Healey is the best way I know of to turn a $50K car into a $20K car.

thanks for the help...btw, Tony, what about the dizzy, any ideas?

A quick Google search tells me the D204 is a Delco Remy distributor fitted to the Triumph GT6+ models from 60 to 70.

HTH , Pete.
