I sold it at a loss @ $2200.Gas keeps going up.
Sorry,but I was getting nervous,as gas prices seem
to keep going up around here.
I had 5-6 people waiting for my reply - never thought
that would happen.Glad to be rid of it.
I filled the tank with gas ($150).I figured that if I
did that,that they wouldn't bother me every time something
happened to it - Plus,it seemed to be the "right thing" to
do.

All things considered you most likely did the right thing for the reason you mentioned.
In the 80's I worked for a guy that had a good business buying the low mileage dinosaurs for close to nothing. We then went over them and sold them for a profit. The customer got reliable driver that was also comfortable. With the low purchase price they got a bargain even with the high fuel cost. A much better deal than a high priced high mileage new car where the fuel savings never made up the difference.
But I think this time it will be different.
 
I always check the gas prices in California, knowing that anywhere else in the US, it'll be cheaper. :devilgrin: PJ
 
You do what you have to do, and now it's no longer your problem. There's value in that, even if you did have to sell it at a loss.
 
I think you made a very smart decision...

We are considering replacing our 2003 Subaru Legacy Wagon which needs some repairs with something that can still carry supplies to our "cabin" in the Poconos, but will be economical with the gas. The Mini Cooper Clubman is not big enough if we have a passenger in the rear "seat". Gas mileage will be a major factor in the final decision.

That's why I'm always firm about my taillight warranty -- the warranty ends once I can't see the taillights anymore. :smile:
 
I hear ya on the price of gas. It was $3.59 on my way to work this morning and when I stopped to fill up on the way home it was $3.64!!!! If I'd have known that was gonna happen I would have stopped in the morning!
 
This is why I bought my <span style="text-decoration: underline">V6</span> Chevy Express cargo van last year. And it took me a while to find a dealer with a new V6, but I eventually found one (about 80 miles away).

I had <span style="text-decoration: underline">tons</span> of people telling me I <span style="text-decoration: underline">needed</span> a big V8 to tow my Spridget. <span style="font-weight: bold">Nonsense!</span>

The 4.3 V6 has lots of torque and will tow my 3000# trailer and car with ease. And I can still get 17 mpg around town. I doubt I'll ever own another V8.
 
People in my family thought I was nuts when I replaced my suv which near the end rarely got more than 14mpg going down wind with a tdi station wagen. Does just about everything I need has just as much space and goes 3 times as far per gallon of fuel.

Now with gas shooting up they don't think I was so nuts.
 
I hear ya, Nial. Bought my 4-run in '06 to tow with, I can get 18mpg going north on 81 with my only V-8 on the trailer. And in spite of all the cautions to the contrary, usually do it with cruise on.

IMO the best V6 ever made. Got one in the S10 and it flys.
 
I owned two (2) S10 pickups with the 4.3 Vortec V6 engines. One with an automatic and one with the 5-speed stick. The auto is a real gas hog, <span style="font-style: italic">maybe</span> get 15 mpg. On the other hand, the stick got 24 mpg but does me no good now. It currently resides somewhere in Mexico, was stolen from my son's house in Phoenix last year.
 
At around $7.40 per gallon here in France, I've got to be a bit careful on the daily runaround. I've had a Previa for 6 years now..just done over 100K miles. It does constantly 42+mpg..town and country. It's good for a car that will take six passengers, cruises at over 100mph all day long (it's dog slow on acceleration though) and can easily pull the trailer with the Healey on board. At the local International school, the carpark is rammed full of huge SUV's (Chelsea Tractors we call 'em)... never ever been off road, and as most people live in apartments, they're unlikely to be towing sheep/horses/wood/bales of hay around. It beats me!
 
I have a Hyundai Santa Fe all wheel drive SUV that gets 24MPG highway. I also have a 2000 Corvette (400HP) that easily gets 32MPG on the highway and mid-20's in town. I usually average 27-28MPG overall (no, I'm not kidding - it is very aerodynamic and his six speed.)

My son drives a Jetta TDI. Wonderful car to drive and consistent high mileage(high thirties to mid forties)!

I have the Vortec in my 92 Safari, probably the last vehicle I will buy new. Just put in a new distributor, that's it. Plenty of guts. It pretty much gets 15 mpg, in town, on the road, empty, full or towing the boat. At times I'd like to get a little car but the frikin thing just won't die.
