Garage Progress

Run a CAT-6 one in there too!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I'da put the power conduit in a seperate trench than the water pipe, but that's just me (if water line breaks/leaks, ya gotta shut off the power to work the break). And the cable away from the power (line noise)... and if ya follow doc's advise, the cat-6 in a seperate one too (line noise again).

Yeah, 60-cycle hummmmm.....

Let me clarify - water is well pipe 4' down (12" below frost line), cable is direct bury cable 3' down, electric is 2' down in conduit, and I do have a roll of CAT-5 here I can throw in a separate conduit w/1' lateral separation from electric. With these separations there should be no bleed thru.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Congrats on the deal. I still wishing for a nice shop.

Electricans finished this week - 100amp service to garage done, plenty of receptacles, 8 - 2' x 4' flouresant fixtures up, 3 - outside lites, all operational! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The search for a heater is on, along with a way to get fuel to 170' behind my house. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Let me know what heater options you find. That is the one thing left that I also need to add to the garage.

I just bought the 3VU36 heavy-duty portable electric heater from Grainger for my insulated and drywalled 2 car garage for $134.60. It is made in Taiwan for Dayton. It has a built in thermostat. I plug it into the 60 amp MIG welder outlet. It is large enough to keep me warm.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif Those things worked AWESOME in the M198 Howitzer maintenance bays in ~early~ spring on the top of Mt Fuji. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you decide on the gas route you might consider a Hot Dawg. I've installed a few and they are available with a direct vent option. Why is distance an issue? If you can drive a car to the garage an oil or propane truck should be able to back down the driveway.

Do you have oil/hot water heat? I added a Modine unit to heat the garage that's just another zone on the regular system and it wasn't that expensive. It takes the (3 car+) garage from about 30 deg to 65 in about 90 minutes. Doesn't cost much to run it.

Otherwise I'd just use propane (Monitor unit, maybe) with the tanks outside.
