Garage Floor Paint advertised on Speed Channel

Ouch! That would have hurt. Thanks for posting Steve.

Looks like a 4-post lift though. Mine is a 2-poster, although no guarentee something similar could not happen. I always give the car a bit of a "bounce" once its in the air to make sure nothing is going to move. Mine seems fine, but did have to have the vendor replace the hydraulic pump, and two of the arms are not quite as square as they could be. It makes working on the cars a breeze though - would never go back to jack stands.

heh... Rob: didja know you can change a Europa T/C waterpump from underneath with a lift?!? I could cut "book" in half with that trick. Head stays on... Gotta have what the rest in the shop referred to as "Lotus Fingers" tho.

Steve - did that fail because of a defect or did it fail because somebody moved the car "off ramp"?

& would you PM me the name of the manufacturer please?

No way! Is it true? Surely you jest. Would need to pull the engine pully (how?), get the coolant tubes out of the way and heck knows what else! What is the trick? (Other than the Lotus fingers)

Patience. Short tools, too. There are witnesses still living, BTW. :smirk:

Book is 18 hours, IIRC.

Well I just hope my pump holds for many more a mile. Lift or no, it will be a right PITA of a job.

Tony, the lift failed for the reason I noted above. It was a problem with the design and cheap materials. There was a safety-critical device that was screwed instead of welded. It loosened and as the metal wore through, and then the entire cable and pulley system came apart, dropping the lift in one corner before the rest. The result is what you see. Fortunately no one was killed but two classic Corvettes have seen better days.

Interesting, Steve...but it seems to me that when a company goes out on a limb to discuss specifications on the front end (see statement below), ANY defect, whether design, materials, or labor that leads to a failure that could later be attributed to that defect would certainly lead to litigation...and likely bankruptcy.

"The factory that makes our ATLAS and DIRECT lifts is located in CHINA. The owner of this company is The Dover Corporation (Fortune 500 Company). We can legitimately advertise that our factory is 100% American owned. We feel that this statement may appear deceptive to our customers because the factory is located in China. We agree. Although the plant is located in China and most of the workers in the plant are Chinese- The Dover Corporation has implemented the same manufacturing standards and procedures found in The Dover Corporation manufacturing plants located around the world. (Including the USA)"

Me too Steve. If you could let me know the Manufacturers....via PM of course.

I'm not saying that all Chinese products are bad. It's just impossible to know which are which. Of course there is the problem of paying Chinese workers with money that could go to paying our own families, but that's a personal issue for each of us to decide the importance of.

It sounds as if you're in good shape with the lift you're ordering as far as safety is concerned. Admittedly I know little to nothing about that company other than the lifts I looked at a few years ago when I ordered mine.
