Saw this posted on a P-car forum I frequent. I can't see this ever making the airwaves over here.

Can't get the link, blocked here.

I have them on my MINI and EIGHT DEM!!!!

Love em!! Why doesn't our TV have such a sense of humour?

our "Nanny State" is far more advanced than theirs....

hehehehehe... pretty good.
Personally I hate run flats! but that's from the guy that has to change em at the shop. Those stiff sidewalls, and the extra bead on the rim make them miserable to mount and dismount. Most current tire machines are NOT equipped to handle them.
Oh, yea and you'll love the $800-$1000 it costs to replace a set of 4 too.
(all wheel drive Sienna vans have them. that's how I know.)

Aw come on Skirt and great legs and nobody stopped?? Not in America.

Brutally funny!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

(We don't have them here because we also don't have that much British humor here!!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Lets just call it WRY!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I've got 'em on my MINI, too. When it comes time to get new tires, I wish I could find a replacement rim so I could mount a spare on it. Apparently, MINIs have a weird lug pattern, so no other wheels will fit (that I'm aware of). And, I'm not buying another fancy mag MINI wheel!

Don't like the way the runflats handle. Very stiff sidewalls.

Anyone know of a replacement rim for MINIs???

No doubt Goodyear would be sued for some kind of trauma if these were shown here. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

You can mount non-runflat tires on the Mini runflat rims - I have Goodyear Eagle F1s on my Mini (after ditching the runflats) and carry a Continential "slime" compressor/repair kit rather than a spare. If you want a spare, you should be able to get a steel rim from the dealer. I have a set of snow tires on steel rims. These were only around $50 a pop as I recall. Tire Rack can probably also sell you steel rims.

Hey, Rob, thanks for the input. My dealer says they have no wheels other than the ones that came on the car (plus, of course, more expensive, optional wheels).

That's the rub. Unless one purchases another OEM mag wheel, I'm not aware of a replacement wheel that will fit these cars.

The tire slime and/or a repair kit sounds good, but, if the sidewall is trashed, you're stranded. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Which brings us back to square one . . . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

Hi Mark:

With all due respect, I think your dealer is a bit miss-informed! If nothing else, the steel whells are stock on the base model Minis (or were anyway). These are narrower/smaller radius, but would be fine for a spare. Or you could get a doughnut spare as supplied with the Minis that did not have runflats (only the Cooper S should have runflats, as they had to move the battery to the boot, to make room under the hood for the supercharger, and so no room for a spare). Tire Rack sells a 6.5 x 15 inch steel wheel for the Mini for $38 a piece. Give 'em a call.

The Conti slime has its limitations, but I cannot remember the last time I got a flat with a modern tire.

Well, I don’t doubt that they don’t have other wheels that fit. But just about everybody else does. My feeble and totally unreliable memory suggests they’re a standard 4x100mm pattern.

Used factory wheels are often available pretty cheap because so many people upgrade to aftermarket wheels/tires.

We put Minilites on ours.

Our Cooper came with runflats and a doughnut spare. Seemed pointless. We dumped them when they wore out.
