T-Series Fun Hot Rod MGTF...

I'm a Triumph Owner but this is a TF that I would own and drive. Thought I would share some details of it for you MG folks.

An LBC shop in Fort Collins has modified a TF for the owner that really updates it. It's not quite finished yet but is driveable and could be considered finished. They did not butcher an original TF, it had been previously modified. When it arrived at the shop it had a Sunbeam Alpine engine in it and the guages had been switched to different round units as well as opposed to the octagonal units. It now has a warmed over MGB 1800 engine, making about 130hp at the flywheel, backed by a Datsun 5-Speed conversion. This car is an absolute blast to drive! I've driven standard TF's as well and the difference is amazing. It will cruise comfortably at 75mph and has no issues climbing through the foothills of the Rockies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Now to the unfinished part. It is still using the standard TF brakes and rear axle. The shop is trying to convince the owner to update the front brakes to MGB disc's at the very least and possibly to swap in an MGB rear axle for better gearing as well since the TF's low rear end gearing is no longer needed with the power of the new engine.

I don't have any pictures to share yet but will try and post some for you all. The whole job has been done very profesionally and is really top notch. It also generates tons of smiles from whoever drives it.

When you said "Hot Rod" I thought of a big V8 stripped down with candy apple red and flames paint....

This sounds a more civilized and agreeable animal....

I wondered about that after I posted. When I get some photos I'll probably re-post it as "updated TF".

Sounds interesting! But too bad about the guages. The octaganal guages are one of my favorite things on a TF.

Because the TF had already been modified, the shop was happy to do the upgrades. Especially as it was bringing the engine back into the MG family. It is too bad that the guages were already switched out. I always thought the octaganol gauges were a nice touch. Evidently a PO didn't share our good taste. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
