Apparently it's not the first time it's been done, as I've seen some pretty ingenius musical instruments used by performers...

There is, or was, a company that made small guitar amps called "Smokies". They were tiny little things and the casing was-get this-a cigarette pack (the box type, not the soft pack). You could pick the brand, even. Apparently Billy F. Gibbons used to buy them by the...er...carton.
