Fulcrum pin thread size.

I had to cut my fulcrum pins to remove the kingpins from the 59 B/E. We had some difficulty getting one of the remaining inner fulcrum pins out of the A-arm. We now have a small burr about half-way up the threaded surface in the arm. The thread does not seem to be standard. Could it be Whitworth? Any info would be helpful.

I would recommend highly that you have your a-arms "rebuilt."

The threaded fittings on the end of the a-arm are braised in place. When you have the arms rebuilt, the rebuilder removes the old fitting and replaces with new. The threads in those fittings are frequently rusted and worn such that even with a new fulcrum pin, there will be slack in your suspension.

The fulcrum pins do not wear, they are hardened steel. The threaded fittings on the A arm are mild steel. Guess which wear and need replaced first.

Do em both, good for another 40 years.

Some further info on the fulcrum pins. The lower bushings/fittings are available from Winners Circle (with the fulcrum pin) and from Apple Hydraulics (bushings only). Eric Jones and Peter C kindly gave me this info. Eric is currently not rebuilding a-arms and neither in Peter. I have ordered replacements bushings and will have my local shop braze them in. Replacement a-arms are at least $189.00 per arm. I put a lot of work into getting mine cleaned up and a $400 bill for new arms on a $500.00 car did not seem practical.

Both threaded ends are the same thread pitch, I rember one was a common size and the other was not. Use an old pin when sweating the new bushings into place so that they stay the right amount of distance apart so it fit with the new pin.
