Fulcrum Pin Removal

Tired of the body work, think I'll get the front suspension as a change of pace. I'm having trouble unscrewing the fulcrum pin to separate the lower link from the swivel pin. The cotter pin came out with a little heat, PBB, and patience. I've removed the screwed plug, cork rings and followed the same procedure, but it appears to be stubborn. Do I need to remove the pressed-in plug?

you don't need to remove the pressed plug and most likely the fulcrum pin is frozen to the kingpin. by "cork rings" i think you mean the cork washers on either side of the kingpin. if the fulcrum pin is frozen you may have to cut the pin to get the kingpin off.

Lots of heat on the kingpin at the fulcrum pin. They always sieze at this point. If that doesn't do it, a sawzall or metal cut off wheel (thin) and cut the pin on either side of the kingpin hub. Just make sure the pin moves in the A arm before cutting it or you will never get the stubs out.

Ouch! I'm going to let it rest overnight and then give it another shot- maybe a couple sharp raps before I twist again. Once cut apart the pin would be drilled out? Yeah, they're cork washers, they were called 'rings' in the shop manual. Once I removed them (rather the heat did)I can see that the PBB is flowing through at least one half the pin/sleeve, didn't figure to be that big a deal after that. Thanks!

these pins freeze solid. past experience and discussions on this forum have demonstrated that these are a bugger to remove without cutting. it depends on the age and wear and perhaps you'll get lucky. perhaps other members will have some other tricks you could use. good luck!
