Drove my MGB last tuesday and parked it with a half a tank...went to drive it today (Haven't been driven since last tuesday)only has a quarter tank in it..got to looking around and noticed what looked like an airhose that runs from the tank to the rear leaf area..is the gas evaporating out of this hose? if so can i plug it?
 
That maybe a disconnected vent line. Check the expansion cannister in the trunk to see if the vent lines are properly connected. Plugging a vent can cause fuel starvation to the motor, and/or a collapsed fuel tank.
 
I agree with Kimberly, It sounds like it is the fuel tank vent. If you plug it off you will NOT like the results.
My Nissan truck does the same thing has a half tank when parked then next time you start it up only a quarter. This is because the fule sloshing around in the tank from driving can result in an inacurate reading. Once the fule settles down after parking it for a time the the reading becomes more accurate.
OR someone in the neighborhood needed gas for thier moped and sucked a gallon or so out during the night /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif
 
That is your fuel vent line. It should go from your tank to your expansion tank then all the way forward to a absorbtion canister, most likely charcoal, in the front right side of your engine compartment. If it is not connected all the way up, you may be losing gas via fumes especially if the weather has been warm. I don't think you would lose a 1/4 tank, but who knows.

Kid in my neighborhood once siphoned some diesel out of my car thinking it was gas. Needless to say his go kart didn't last long after that.

*SMILES* Remembering when I lived with parents .
One morning we found one of our John Deer tractor we had left in the field, nearly empty. {My dad gave me a Scottch blessing for NOT filling it up that previous day} But I DID fill it! On the way to back to the ranch to get the service truck we came across a stalled chev on one of the remote dirt roads.
Sure enough, after investigation there was a very strong diesel smell under the hood. Those boys had a very long walk back to the main highway. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif That car sat there for month and months after that too. Eventualy it dissapeared. Hahahahahahahaha
