Fuel tank straps

Two questions about the straps for my BJ7.

1) The Moss catalog (21 in pic attached) shows a plate behind the mount that attaches to the boot wall. My mounts are fine but I don't have plates. What is the plate material? Steel? Cork?

2) One of the Ts on the strap is broken off. I was thinking about brazing a bolt on the end of it. Does that sound like a sensible fix?

I see Steve. It goes to the back side. Makes sense. Is it about 1/8" thick?

Perfect! Thank you very much.

Hi,

There are two pieces of unknown material riveted to each fuel tank strap. Can anyone tell me this material is and are the rivets copper or steel?

The material riveted to each strap is a thin strip of rubber. I am not quite sure of the rivet type but will check tomorrow and let you know.

IIRC the original packing on the metal straps was more of a tan or brownish paper like material. Like a stiff cardboard. But semi water proof. And yes they were riveted but I don't know if they were copper or steel. At least on a BT7.

I noticed in the comments section that one Healey owner had rubber strips under the straps the same as mine. Mine is a BJ7 so maybe they changed the material later. Just on my way to get the straps out of storage.

The rivets on my strap are copper bifurcated. I have taken some pics on my phone and will send them to you shortly. I am still not quite sure if the rubber strips are correct as the straps have shorter marks on them where something has been removed . The straps and the rubbers etc. are currently not together.

Photos as promised. The rubber strips look professionally made but I couldn't be 100% that they are original . If you search for "fuel tank strap" on this forum you will find a previous post which discusses this item. The ruler is metric.

When I did my BJ8s I used a leather belt that I cut then used those brass butterfly paper clip things where you spread the wings out on the back side .
***** NOTE I AM NOT A PURIST ***** so I have no idea and couldnt care less if its not “CORRECT”

I seem to recall that the material was about 1/16” thick and it reminded me of a gasket type of material.
