Any reasonable stainless steel tanks available? Will the non-vented Midget tanks in the VB Catalogue work? My steel tank has had it.
 
I've often wondered why people think about paying extra for stainless gas tanks & exhaust systems when the old steel ones lasted so long...plus the cars aren't treated like they were back in "the day".....I'd go back with steel! You'll never replace one again while you own the car!

Steel tank for a Bugeye from Moss is around $300.

Same with tube shock conversions...those lever shocks have lasted 30+ years & buying rebuilt ones that will last another 30 is less expensive than all the tube shocks you'd wear out over the same 30 years!!
 
Not necessarily looking for stainless...thought that was all that was out there.
 
I bought one off ebay, and it looks and fits OK, but has no drain hole. I'm thinking about adding one before I put fuel in it.
 
I found a local guy that normally fixes old steel radiators. He seems to think he can make the old one right. Anyone gone this route?
 
I've had tanks repaired before, but the problem is finding someone to do it affordable. If you've found a guy and the price is right ... sure.
 
I have tanks repaired all the time at my local radiator shop - & add drain plugs to all of them also. When he does it, have him line it also.
 
What would you consider a reasonable price for something like this?
 
My guy charges between $85 & $100 to boil, pressurize & repair, install a drain plug & then chemcally line....takes about 4 days because he leaves it to dry between cleaning/repair & lining & then again afterwards to make sure its ready for gas when I take it home.
 
That seems reasonable. That last one I had done was about $75, but that was many years ago. The last quote I got (last year) was $150, and that did not include adding a drain plug.
 
Brian C was trying to find a home for a decent Midget MkI tank. It should fit the Bugeye. It will need to be boiled and lined, but it may be an option if your tank proves unrepairable. He will be back from vacation this weekend.
 
He can do it for $100 even. I told him to go ahead. It will be ready next week! In the meantime, I'll see what's going on with the brakes.
