fuel system-I surender

I have ruled out ignition parts, everything checks out on dwell, voltage and I just replaced cap, rotor, condensor etc. ...engine runs great on jackstands, very good vacuum, temp, fuel pressure etc,so I am convinced its not a ignition issue-as I have stated earlier,it starts right up,runs well and then it starts running roughly. I am gonna go drain the tank and pull it out and check things out-thanks for all the opinions!

Anything worth doing is worth doing over and over and over...
Good luck this time!

Careful, I once bought a brand new fuel cap that was supposed to be vented and wasn't,. It drove me nuts for months till I figured it out.

I bought a SU pump that is actually for a MGB (AUD 1307) its had very little use,it shows 2.6 lbs after regulator . It's practically brand new. I have a spare Facet little cube pump that I may resort to if I cant straighten this out soon....1/3 the money and has a filter before the pump, not just the one that is at the front carb inlet

Can you here the SU pump clicking when your problems occur? The way a SU sounds can tell one a lot.

Kurt.

put the car up in the air and went in and checked all the band clamps where it goes from soft line to hard line from tank to regulator at front carb-I got 3 or 4 clicks out of the pump-as soon as the sun comes out again I will check it out to see if this is sucking air into the line at these unions....

When it does this stalling, do you get a strong smell of gas?

No-however I drained the gas tank today as a check for rust, gas came out clear with no rust,so I am thinking that my problem is related to air getting in the line.we shall see

When it sputters to a stop do you hear the pump clicking furiously? That would indicate pump is not getting fuel.
Do you not hear any clicking? That would indicate pump is not functioning as it should or there is a restriction further on in the system or float bowls are full.

Those sounds from an SU should give you some idea of what is happening. From there I would suspect plugging in the tank, restriction from filters, restriction from regulator.

I have run nothing but a clear strainer right before the carbs since the 70's.
Simple and with a limited area for problems.
