Fuel supply problems - 79 midget - help!!

Car will run fine if i fill the float bowl but its not sucking enough fuel through.
Steps taken so far:
1) If i disconnect the fuel line and use my mityvac I can suck fuel, but it takes a lot of pumps.
2)There does not appear to be any blockages in fuel line, I've removed it all the way to tank and blown compressed air thorough it.
3) new pump fitted - no change.
4) run gas into inlet side of pump from a container - keeps going fine.

thoughts anyone -Please!
Neil

You got a restriction in the line, filter, tank strainer or vent. There, think I covered all the possibilities. check em all, one at a time.

Could be trash in the bottom of the tank clogging your pick up. But I am going to be that your gas tank vent is clogged. See if things work better with your gas cap removed. Also, I hate to say this, but double check to make sure you have plenty of fuel in the tank. You could have a busted gas gauge. You can pretty easily pull the fill pipe to check the tank.

Also, make sure you don't have a air leak. I had enough of a leak where air would siphon into the line at the connections, but gas would not drip. It'd fill the fuel filter with air, and then the car would die out after a while. I know this because I have a glass fuel filter and I watched it happen.

New tank!
What filter? I don't have an inline filter....
Low gas - Yup! Seems a gallon is not enough to prime pump and keep it going - but 2 gallons does! Everything in the fuel chain is now new - so good for a few more years.

I'm used to complex fuel injection systems - ala Porsche - so these LBC systems take some getting used to.
Even though I'm a Brit, owned an original MG back in 67'ish

I agree with Morris. Remove the gas cap. The tank may not be vented (bad gas cap or charcoal cansister plugged) and your fuel pump can't pull fuel due to a vacuum. If that doesn't fix your problem then you need to examine the gas tank. Hope this helps.

Haha, the low gas bug bites again. Did that not long ago.
