Fuel send unit problems

eep! Jeff won that in an E-bay bid a while back, IIRC. I'm STILL jealous!

I love calibrated test equipment. 'specially when it has KNOBS! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Okay, Dale, here's a shot of the outside.
Yes, Doc, I bought this last summer for way more than I should have. I've used it twice, though.

Offhand, I'm guessing the actual problem is probably Pedro's fuel gauge.

There may be an adjustment screw on the back of the gauge that will let you calibrate it to your new sending unit.

Dale, is your new sending unit a correct Smiths unit? Different sending have different ohm readings. From what you're describing, it sounds like both the sending unit and the gauge are both working, the reading is just way off. The correct unit (on my '74, but I don't think year matters) reads 18 ohms at full and 240 at empty. It appears that your sending unit may not be correct for the guage. Summitracing.com lists several ranges of guages and sending units. If the sending unit is not correct, they are available frequently on Ebay.
