Fuel safe gasket material

Need to make some gaskets for my gas tank sender etc...what is a good material to use other than cork?

I have had good results with "art foam". Can't speak to how it holds up to petroleum derivitives though, but it shouldn't be too hard to test. I got mine at "Hobby Lobby" in various sized sheets and colors.

Get thee to a NAPA store and ask for gasketing material, comes in varying thicknesses and materials.

:iagree:

Yup - charcoal grey colored, thick, papery stuff works well and is cheap enough.

Or... for gasoline, use rubber sheet made of Buna-N (a.k.a. Nitrile) rubber. This should be available from some bearing houses and definitely online at McMaster-Carr. However, it will cost you more in material than buying a pre-cut gasket if you only need one or two pieces.
