fuel pumps

So I'm reorganizing my parts bin and came across three different fuel pumps. One of these will be going on my six soon but not sure which just yet. Anyone care to share thoughts on fuel pump reliability, details below.

Pump 1: Original AC brand, made in UK, w/primer handle
Pump 2: Aftermarket, unknown brand, made in Canada, no primer
Pump 3: Aftermarket, unknown brand/country, w/primer, note this pump has smaller diameter housing than 1&2.

The A.C. one would be "pick-o-the-litter" IMO. I bet you can STILL go to NAPA and get a diaphragm for it! Someplace in the back of my mind I recall the Canadian ones were inherently flawed (can't remember how, mebbe just because of not having a priming method), and #3 would be hard to service (see NAPA comment above) "in the wild" so-to-speak.

Go with #1 . You can still get rebuild kits for it.

My verbosity allows you to get there first, Jeff.

...I gotta be more glib. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Something Up, I bet... Something Up... Something that starts with a T Up...

Nope. I give up.

Thinking along these lines, we should assemble a list of "on-board spares" as a suggested "kit" for longer trips in LBC's. Things like points-n-condensor, genny brushes, spare plugs... fuses, bulbs...

The "stuff" to bail the tail out if the inevitable happens "out there."

No, a "Triple-A Plus" card is NOT considered ~honorable~ spares. Before ya mention it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Question:
What is the advantage of having an electric fuel pump for Webber dgv's?

It seems to run well with the original fuel pump, except taking of in 1st gear, unless I give it a bit more pedal than I really want to...

I had a Canadian pump fall apart. As I remember, the pushrod arm was made of three stamped pieces of steel riveted together at the bottom with a cam contact piece. While driving, the rivet came apart. The original AC has a one piece pushrod.

Interesting, the Canadian pump I have has three stamped pieces making up the pushrod all secured by a rivet of some type. However, my original AC pump also has the three piece riveted pushrod. The AC has proven its worth, 35 years, 60+ thousand miles and a highly polished face where it touches the camshaft.
