fuel pumped into elc

I've got a 77 MGB with a ZS pumping gas into and thru evaporative canister, it does this when running and with just the ignition turned on, fuel pump running. Just started doing this over night. Any suggestions? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

Welcome to the forum. I am not familiar with the Zenith carb (I have twin SU's)but if the carb bowl breather is connected to the cannister, then the float is probably not cutting off the flow of fuel when the bowl is full. Look for something wrong in the float area or an obstruction in the needle valve. Another point to think about is if the pump was replaced with a stronger one, then it could force the gas past the needle valve.
Maybe someone more familiar with the Zenith can come in here and offer something else.

No point to adding to perfection. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif You nailed it Bob. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If it happenened overnight, I doubt the fuel pump started pumping harder, either something in the needle and seat or the float became a sink- either a hole or gas-logged. Lots of luck

I agree, Tim, but I would check fuel pressure first (much easier to do /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) (Of course, I have a fuel pressure gauge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I've got 3.25 lbs fuel pressure, cleaned float chamber and needle and seat. Floats are still floats. needle and seat will hold pressure when carb is disassembled. Put back together and still does the same thing.

Well, there is some reason why it isn't cutting off at the float.Mine only shows 2lbs and I also changed to gross jet needle and seat for positive cut off. I'm not sure about the 3.25lbs but I know a little too much pressure will go right passed the needle. Is it a stock pump? Also, does your pump stopat all when it should be up to pressure?
Just reread your statement. Holds pressure when disassembled but not when together. There possibly is an obstruction that wont let the float get high enough or the float possibly isn't set at the right height.
