Ealy 70's B (a friend is calling me): will run if fuel put in carb, but won't run on it's own. Pump is suspect; can hold thumb over the line and stop fuel delivery- guessing a pound or so. How much pressure should the pump have?
 
Sounds more like a needle and seat issue. If it has Gross jets in there that may be the problem. I have seen them stick closed at the oddest times. 2-3 lbs of pressure is enough. 5 would probably override the floats and flood the car. Bob
 
Jody - See the article, Fuel Delivery Troubleshooting Guide in the SU Fuel Pump Articles section of my web site at: https://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ Output pressure of the OEM pump for MGBs is either 2.7 psi or 3.8 psi. Putting ones thumb over either the outlet line of the inlet line will cause the pump to stop, but this is not a good indication of the pump's integrity.
