fuel pump upgrade

I'm upgrading the fuel pump on my 1959 spridget from a Facet run-all-the-time pump to an SU electronic solid state pump. The changeover isn't a problem, I'm just wondering about the two small ports on the pump. I'm thinking they're vents to be attached to the emission control system, which I don't have. I'm hoping they can be left as is without compromising the function of the pump. Thanks
