fuel pump spacer?

I was told today that on the TR6 there is supposed to be a spacer between the fuel pump and block. Does anyone know about this and if so how thick is it supposed to be?

I should add that this question came up from a note in the box with a new fuel pump.

Thanks

New one on me. Have never seen or needed one to this point. What kind of pump was this with.

Dunno what kind of pump you're running. If it were a Chevy, yes need a spacer. But on both of my engines just a gasket.

That is what I thought.

The shop where I have work done got a new pump for a '72 TR6. In the box was a note saying that if the pump is not installed with a spacer it could damage the cam and pump. The shop called yesterday to ask if I knew anything about it.

I will find out more today about the pump before mentioning the source. At this point I can only say it was from one of our larger sources. I also have a call in to them but their phones were overwhelmed last evening.

Tom - they may be referring to 'long-arm' pumps. I have seen two kinds of pump used, one has a longer lever-arm than the other. I believe the long-lever needs a spacer (about 1/4"-3/8" as I recall) between it and the engine block, so that the arm sits on the pump cam properly.

Compare the one that came out with the new one. If the new one has a noticably longer arm, you may need a spacer to fit it properly.

Thanks Ross, I had a message when I got home from Moss Tech Support and they don't think it needs a gasket even though the directions seemed to call for one. The pump is for a different car and the pump was missing so I will compare it to the pump from my car.

This issue also came up on the Moss British Car Forum.

A Moss representative posted that the instructions to add the spacer are wrong and Moss has asked the pump manufacturer (in Asia) to stop adding the instructions.

I recently installed one of these pumps in my TR3. After comparing the old and new levers (both were the same length) I disregarded the spacer instructions and the pump works perfectly.
