Hi everyone, this is my first post but not my last. I hope Basil is happy now.

I've been attempting to install an original type SU fuel pump in the correct location on my 67B. However, I've come upon the idea of moving the pump into the boot/trunk. I thought this might afford the pump more protection from the elements and if service is ever necessary it would be easier to reach.

Can I get some pros/cons from anyone along this line of thought?

sounds like a good way to have a fire in your trunk if anything gets to rolling around and breaks a fuel line

I'd keep it in the stock location. It may be more exposed to the elements and it may be harder to get at....but it's much more protected in case of accident. If it's in the trunk, it's really not that far from *you*. And, as mentioned, it could get bashed by loose stuff rolling around in the trunk.

When I switched to an electric pump (Facet brand) in my 1500 Spridget, I put it in the same (relative) position as it is in an MGB...for safety's-sake.
 
This might be a stupid question (since for the ~7 years I have had my B the same good ole aftermarket pump has been ticking away behind the battery):

Where is the stock fuel pump location in a 67B? I know on late Bs there was a cover on the front edge of the boot covering part of the fuel pump.

My 77 Midget also has an aftermarket electric pump; it's on the inner fender. I'm not too fond of that location but since the car isn't running right now, I will likely move it.
 
The early B fuel pumps are under the car near the rear passenger side wheel well, just forward of the passenger side battery bin.

(I know this because I had a faulty fuel pump for a while that needed "banging on" occasionally. I could reach it from inside the car through the passenger side battery hole, because my 12v battery is on the driver's side . . . )

The "Why?" of it is that the PO had installed one of those electric after market pumps (sucking more air then fuel now). I purchased the SU thinking I'd slide under the car and re-install it as original (I found the mounting bracket in a box in the trunk). Once in position under the car I realized the reason the bracket was in the trunk---the two bolts/studs that hold the pump mounting bracket in place are totally striped. I haven't looked to see if or how they may be replaced yet.

Since I couldn't mount the pump in it's original location with the hardware available, I started thinking about alternative locations (you know, taking the easy way out). I figured it could be mounted on top of the wheel well using the original mounting bracket and shielded from damage by a metal plate using flex hose to and from the pump.

So then, I'll take your advice and not install the pump in the trunk.

Can anyone tell me how to go about replacing the two bolts/studs that should hold the pump mounting bracket?
