Fuel pump needing a tap -- approaching doom?

My 74 MG usually sits for a week before I'm able to take it out on the weekends, and pretty consistently the fuel pump needs a tap before it starts to click away. Is this a sign of any approaching failure?
 
/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif Just pay attention to the diaphragm when you open it up to clean the points...there are 2 different types, in case you decide to buy a rebuild kit for it.
 
The pumps are easily fixed. I pulled one out of a junkyard, fully encased in mud and wasp nest parts. I got a kit for it, and it runs just fine. I like these pumps much better than the alternatives out there.

I wouldn't invest in a new pump just yet, try a kit first.
 
I used to always keep spare fuel pumps in the garage when my MGB was the daily commuer...must have gone through about three or four during the10 years of commuting with the car...

finally went to a sw, monkeyed the fuel line connections, and have NEVER had another problem...

For any serious suse of MG's etc., thats the first thing I would do now, is install a realiable fuel pump..
