Fuel pump up-date

When my SU fuel pump died after 200 miles I ordered a new Airtex pump from Amazon. My order was placed Sunday and was shipped yesterday. This morning I got a call from the place that had sold me the SU pump. He told me that he has received another one from Moss and that there is a two year warranty on my faulty pump. However for the warranty to be implemented they have to inspect my faulty pump. Early next week I'll take the pump to him and hope that Moss agrees to cover it. Monday my Airtex is due to arrive here and I'm going to install it. I'll keep the new one on standby until I know that the warranty will be honored. If it isn't, I'll return the new one.

In the meantime I'm working on installing a Panhard bar and waiting for Jeff to send my reworked original distributor back to me. There's no end of things to do with my LBC.

I just fitted my second Airtex to my midget. Only flaw is that it is so quiet on my midget mounted in the original SU mounts that I can't here it unless the engine is'nt running and I put my head down next to the passenger side rear wheel. On my BE its mounted directly to the bulkhead and I can here it ticking if I listen really closely. Its great!!

Ahh, yep. Now you cooking. You will like that pump. Is nice to hear when you hit the Ign. then have it fade into the distance when you start up.

Airtex E8016S $50, is the one for low pressure applications, like 3.5 lbs

Good for HS1s and 2s. No clue what else.

Nelson got his Airtex for $33 thru Amazon I got mine for $38 thru Rock Auto.

I just finished installing my Airtex pump. It seems to be working exactly as hoped for. I had to machine a couple of adapters for the fuel lines as the pump is 5/16 and I have 1/4 line but so far all is good. There was a concern when the fuel first arrived at my clear fuel filter at the carbs. The gas was a kind of orange color but it went away quickly. Yesterday I returned my faulty SU pump to the place that sold it to me. He is returning it to Moss for their evaluation. There is a two year warranty and if it checks that way for them they will cover it. I picked up a replacement SU pump from my dealer and my plan is to use it for a backup for the new Airtex. Hopefully it can just stay in its box for a long long time.

I am thinking of getting one of the airtex pumps for when I replace the 948 in my bugeye with a 1275.
I'm not sure what diameter the fuel line is, presumably 1/4. I have no means of "machining" any adapter. What exactly did you have to do?

It is easier to adapt by getting two of those "cheap" plastic fuel filters at the car parts store that has stepped fittings on each end- push on the hose to the correct size on each end, one filter to go "up" in size and one to go "down" (plus then you have more filters for safety)

Unless you have a lathe, Bill M's suggestion would be the way to go. I have a lathe and had some 5/16 brass rod. I turned a short piece down to 1/4" for about a half an inch and then drilled a lengthwise hole through a piece about an inch long. It only took a couple of minutes and I didn't have to run to the store.

Any decent hardware store would have any adapters you might need for any plumbing situation.

the correct fittings can be ordered - can't remeber where I got them but think I just ordered online from some automotive site...

Fred, as Kurt mentioned, if you're still working on your fuel pump, you can get adaptors at most any auto parts store. What you need is a 1/8 NPT X 1/4" adaptor, and you can get them either straight or 90 degrees. What comes with the pump is for 5/16" hose, I think, and we need 1/4". I just went through the same exercise and got adaptors at either O'Reilly's or CarQuest, can't remember which. Good luck. Jack
