Fuel Pump Issues

Is it normal for the fuel pump to constantly "thump, thump, thump" while driving. I know it does it @ start up but is the pump just about at the end of it's life? If so which pump should I get, victoriabritish shows one w/ both polarity is this the type for my '66 Sprite? Thanks for the help!

sounds normal, SU pumps are known for their characteristic "click" even while driving, you only need to be worried when it stops clicking !

if you're nearly out of fuel & throw it round a sharp bend, the pump won't have anything to suck up for a little while. It will be noisy then.
Normally I can't here mine above the engine noise.

Not wantimg to hijack the thread but happy birthday!

On the polarity issue, for the future you'll want to know. Sprites changed (as you have ascertained in mid year '66. The changes besides polarity, were to a bigger 1275 engine, and a convertible top rather than roadster (removable) style. If the engine tag says 1275, you most likely have a negative ground car. Or look at which terminal of the battery is grounded. From your pictures it looks like you have a convertible, ergo a negative ground car. .. What does it say on your tach? That too would ( I think ) say positive earth if it's a 1098.

Happy happy out there in Dodge City.

Thanks for the b-day wishes. Well the battery has always had the + on the - and the - on the + sides if that helps?

The + side going to the short cable that is bolted to the firewall( bulk head, body) would be the early 10CC engine. (check engine plate) 12CC would be the later engine.
I was not aware they changed polarity but if Bill says so who am I to question!!
I thought they stayed + ground till the alternator was fitted.
Do disagree on the top though, Bill, looks like the stowable top car to me.
Does your top come off and go in the trunk, Chris??

Kurt.

BTW, Chris, I love Primrose yellow paint. Is the paint original??

Kurt.

Hey Kurt, yes the top somes off and fits snugly in the trunk. As for the color no it's not the original. Dad had it repainted as close as we could find back in the early 80's.
