FUEL PUMP FOR 1960 MKI 3000

I am finally getting off my duff. I retired my MKI in 1972 when my fiancee gave me an ultimatum and I chose to get a VW. Old red has deteriorated in my garage for over 33 years and I told my wife of 29 years that I changed my mind. Anyway, everything needs work but I am starting with the fuel system and [surprise] I need a fuel pump. Anyone know of a place near Los Angeles, that rebuilds them, upgrades them, sells them, etc. Any advice?

Thanks guys, I've checked out Moss Motors before, but I have the original factory pump and Moss offers new "replicas." I was thinking in terms of their rebuilding my pump at a reasonable price [oxymoron?]. My alternate idea is to keep the broken original pump in its location and to tastefully hide a small new generic pump somewhere in the fuel line. Any experiences with this? I'm not doing a complete ground-up restoration, but figure on rebuilding it to drive it without freaking out about dents and scratches and [dare I say it?] dirt.
 
HI Rivas, I would forget rebuilding a pump that old except as a DIY project to use as a spare.Preferably I would order an Electrtonic SU pump of the correct Polarity.I would guess your car is still Positive ground and the pump I suggest is AZX 1307 for Poaitive ground applications. But do not throw the old pump away!---Fwiw---Keoke
 
Thanks Keoke. You've pointed me in the right direction. I was thinking to save a few bucks and with your suggestion, I still can. However, you recommended SU part AZX 1307 for a positive ground application and Moss has its AZX 1307 (part #377-165) as a negative ground while its #377-160 is offered as a positive ground. My Healey's polarity has never been changed. Isn't it still a positive ground? Are you perhaps hinting that I reverse the polarity?
 
NO Rivas, This pump AZX1307 is a universal replacement Pump and will work in virtually all applications and I believe it is less costly. No need to reverse the ground just get that pump for an Electronic Positive ground application.---Keoke

That is strange. The AZX 1307 that I have, has a diode in it which is connected for negative ground. OTOH, I also have a pump marked AZX 1319 that has a diode which is connected for positive ground.

When did the AZX 1307 become a universal pump?

HI Dave, You can purchase this pump under that part number and you can obtain a pump with points for +/- ground or the Electronic version to accomodate the same grounding systems. I am unaware why this is so but you only need to specify the configuration you want??---Keoke--By the way What configuration is the one you have Points or Electronic.?

Both my 1307 & the 1319 have points & diodes. Pardon my persistence, but exactly where is the AZX 1307 listed as being either pos or neg ground and or electronic. To my knowledge, the 1307 can be specified as a 1307EP or 1307EN for electronic positive or negative ground. Or as a AZX 1307 negative ground & AZX 1319 for positive ground. I found one reference to a AZX 1307X which is claimed to be universal pos or neg ground but this is not backed up by information anywhere else. Thanks,

Good Dave, Your 1319 pump is similar. That pump is for all 4.2 Jags prior to EFI. It can be ordered as AZX 1319EP=Electronic Pos Gnd Or as AZX 1319 EN= Neg Gnd.But to get it with points and Neg Gnd It becomes a AZX1308. The 1307 However, keeps its number for all applications. The actual pumps do not have the E-N/P on them there is an Ali tag on the pump that says "Electronic" in addition to the tag carrying the AZX No or it says nothing for the point type except it has the AZX No. The Neg Gnd Pumps have black tape and the positive ones have red tape on the coil assembly. Additionally, the packaging boxes have a red warning label defining the proper Gnd operation for the pump enclosed. Thanks Keoke. Yeah, clear as mud, but I'm not surprised, considering where it is made. I reversed the diode in the 1319 so I guess it is officially a AZX 1308 now.

PS: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think someone should give these SU guys a course in set theory. I bet I could reduce the number of pump numbers to a group of "Unique Sets" of maybe no more than 6 or 7 given the broad car applications each pump type will fit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
