Fuel overflow on XJR

Hi everyone, I have just joined. I found this site whilst looking for help on the above. I picked up a 1998 4.0 XJR on Friday which had about a quarter full fuel tank. Yesterday, I filled it right up. Drove a couple of miles and parked it on a sloping car park with the rear slighly lower than the front. Approx 20 minutes later fuel started coming out of a small pipe by the fuel tank. It was a hot day and the car was not in the shade. Is this normal?

I don't think this is normal. Check the condition of the gas cap seal. I think that you will find the hose where the fuel discharged was intended to drain water/fuel overflowing from the filler cap from the compartment behind the fuel filler door.

I would have expected the excess fuel from thermal expansion to go to the charcoal canister.
