Fuel line specs

Help, I need to replace the first section of fuel line from the tank forward on my 61 TR3A, including the fitting to the tank. Moss does not carry the item and I'd prefer to build it myself. Can anyone give me the specs.
Thanks
Earl

Classic tube lists the fuel line. Their current catalog has the line (3 pieces,5/16") for $100 for regular steel, and $140 for stainless. These come pre-bent, but I don't know what fittings (if any) it comes with. What they are selling is the whole run to the fuel pump.

I'm sure if you took a section down to a good auto parts store, they could fix you up with the right line and the neccessary fittings. I know there is a compression fitting that connects two sections about half way up to the front.

I don't recall the diameter offhand, but ordinary US brake line will work. It is very corrosion resistant (if you don't damage the terne coating) and a whole lot cheaper than stainless.

I've never cared much for stainless, after seeing just how easily it can rust. Used to have a summer job in a fertilizer plant, and rusty, leaking SS tanks & lines were quite common. If it didn't rust at all, I suppose they would have named it stainproof /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

SS also has other issues, like work hardening and a severe tendency to gall in threads. The extra chrome in the alloy also generally makes it weaker and more brittle than carbon steel ... which is why stainless kitchen knives don't hold an edge nearly as well as carbon steel.
