Fuel line "rot"

This isn't a a current problem, but one I had a while back.

Went out one day to start the car and could smell gas. Backed up the car and found a little wet spot back under the tank. Taking a look under the car, it was really clear right off I had problems around the fuel pump - the two short hoses were cracked like ancient rubber!

Now the odd part is, they were less than a year old. Just stock "fuel line" from the local NAPA store. I double checked and it was labeled "fuel line".

Any ideas why this would degrade so fast?

MGNoir - The problem you had is very common. The new type fuels (you cannot call what we run in our cars gasoline anymore) deteriorates the rubber fuel lines from the inside out. I published an article on this a few years ago while a member of the Orange County Mustang Club because many of the members were having the same problem you had. There isn't anything you can do except check the rubber fuel lines every few months and if you smell fuel check out the problem immediately.

Ah ok, interesting. I see several references to synthetic fuel lines for Biodiesel setups on the net. I wonder if something like that as a replacement would do well?

Use Goodyear Fuel Injection hose. 3m Flurorel inner liner....
it can be used for Ethanol/Methanol blends.
