Fuel line article....

Guys,
Maybe not your regular source of info, but the latest issue of Hot Rod (January 2011) has a very interesting article about new technology in fuel lines. The name of the article is "When Good Hoses Go Bad".

Key note is that the newest evolution in fuel lines is PTFE. These are basically teflon and will not... ever... degrade. So you have new hoses in your Healey and you figure your good for the duration... since the original ones lasted for decades. The heads up is that today's fuel (over the last decade) has become a blend of so many additives and oxygenates that rubber hoses will go bad... period... and much faster than in the past.

Anyway, worth a read.

Cheers,
Steve

Well Steve, but guess what!! The only fuel line I have ever had fail on my Healey was a modern Teflon braided hose so now you can't give me one.

I think some one better tell them Hot Rod boys about Teflon's fatal characteristic called cold flow--Fwiw--Keoke--AZ- :cowboy:

Well there you go!... but I suspect the rubber degrading issue may have validity.

Cheers,
Steve

Yes it has but it is not a catholic problem.

For exampe: When I was into originaity and needed original looking braided fuel line after the Teflon lined stuff split open. I cut me some original stuff out of an MGB and it is still on my car now.

However, there have been some problems on our cars too.---Keoke

Steve
