Fuel Leak / Smell

Hey Team,

The smell in my garage is so strong that I had to park Honey on the street tonite for fear of the water heater igniting the garage. A few weeks ago, I replaced the two hoses in the engine compartment leading into and from the fuel filter. I assumed that was where my leak was... but it's not leaking in that area. The car does not smell of gas inside, but the room is full of the smell. I know that many of you have replaced the fuel filter head assembly (under the gas cap), so I checked in the trunk... no smell of gas. Strongest in the engine compartment. Any insight would be appreciated. Tonite I'll be breaking out my "Service Manual" to follow the lines / hoses. Any help would be great! Thanks to all!

Check under the tank for dampness from pinhole leaks or problems at the fuel tank/line connection. Do you see caked dirt? Does it smell like gas?

Run your hand under the fuel pump, and under the outlet line running from the pump to the carbs. Is it wet?

Check the bottom of the carbs.

I'm not sure what else I'd check, but I'd keep looking.

Not a commom problem, but I had one of the cars I just bought had an aftermarket fuel pump that was wired so it was on all the time...

Found it! bottom plug on the front carb is very loose with gas dripping out. Need a new O-ring looks like. Push fit plug spins freely. Thanks to all for th ehelp "tracking down the problem"!

Good on you! My question is what the heck are you doing up at 4 in the morning pulling plugs out of a smelly carburetor?
